A tip is usually calculated as bill amount × tip rate. A $48 bill with an 18% tip gives $8.64 in tip, for a total of $56.64 before any split adjustments.

When splitting a bill, divide the final total by the number of people. If people ordered very different amounts, a simple equal split may not be fair, but it is useful for quick group meals.
